Flameworking



   Minimize
Lampworking, also called Flameworking or Torch work,  is the ancient art of melting glass to form shapes.  It uses a gas (propane or natural gas) and oxygen torch to produce a flame hot enough to melt glass. Classes include all glass, supplies, tools and FUN!

Lampworking I (Flameworking)

 


Learn the nine essentials for working glass in the flame. Class for adults and teens at West Michigan Glass Art Center will focus on fundamentals of flame work as they apply to the creation of solid glass art items like round, flat or oval pendants, fish, turtles or frogs.  See classes listed below!

Fun things to do in Kalamazoo!

No experience necessary.

Flameworked Knobs

 


Instructor:  Michael Fortin
Wednesday, Sept. 5, 6 - 9 p.m. (FS1216)
Prerequisite: Basic flameworking skills
$55 members/$65 non-members
Maximum: 5 students
    Use lampworking techniques to create unique, detailed knobs and drawer pulls for your cabinets, chest-of-drawers or closet.  This class will focus on construction of solid, practical designs using borosilicate glass that can easily be  translated to other popular types of flameworking glass. Students will learn to use the kiln as a garage and to work with large diameter mandrels.  Class will discuss cold working options to add an extra finishing touch.  WMGAC staff will add the finishing hardware for up to four knobs created in this class.
