Glass fusing, sometimes called warm glass, is the technique of heating pieces of compatible glass in a kiln until they are completely fused. Classes include all glass, materials and tools.

Fusing Fundamentals

Wednesdays 4 weeks, Sept. 5 - 26, 3 - 5 p.m. (FG1210)
Prerequisite: No experience necessary.

This four week class will introduce you to the basic principals behind forming glass in the kiln. You will be introduced to glass cutting tools, the glass saw and grinder. Discover how to incorporate different kinds of glass such as dichroic, stringers, frit and confetti into your one-of-a-kind glass art. You’ll see how glass paints can give your pieces detail and interest. We will create a variety of projects including sparkly dichroic glass jewelry, a 9” architectural or landscape piece, a small slumped dish and a sun catcher or tile. We will discuss kiln shelf preparation and how firing schedules can affect your glass projects.

Fusing Flower Jewelry

This cheerful jewelry class will teach you the basic principals behind forming glass in the kiln. You will be
introduced to glass cutting tools, the glass saw and grinder as you use them to enhance your final design. Create pendant and earring sets showcasing your favorite flowers. We’ll use frit, stringers and confetti to create daisies, poppies, pansies or your favorite flower! Bring photos of flower ideas for inspiration. Class will include 2 sets of jewelry findings, additional sets will be available for purchase.

Fused Glass Wind Chimes

Learn the basics of cutting glass and kiln fusing while creating a beautiful, colorful and creative spring wind chime to hang outside your home. Several design options will be available but students will
create their own design reflecting their vision of spring!

Parent and Child Fused Glass Candy Dish

This is a wonderful experience to share with your children. Work side by side as you learn to cut glass and layer it on a clear base to create two brightly colored candy dishes. By adding frit, stringer and confetti your projects will be unique works of art.

This class will introduce you both to the basic principals behind
forming glass in the kiln to create beautiful fused glass pendants. You will be introduced to all of the tools, basic glass cutting and kiln forming theory. You will be able to incorporate sparkling dichroic glass to make your pieces really shine! When these one-of-a-kind pieces come out of the kiln a WMGAC staff member will attach bails to 2 of your pieces so they are ready to wear.
What a fun fill day! You will learn so many new skills in this glass fusing and sandblasting class for adults here in Southwest Michigan. We're the hotspot for fun things to do in Kalamazoo!

We’ll have fun in this class as we incorporate stringers, frit and confetti to create dip bowls worthy of a summer blowout party! The Birds and Butterflies

Prerequisite: No experience necessary.

Your heart will be aflutter as we create colorful birds, butterflies, dragonflies and bees in this whimsical fused glass jewelry class. You will learn the principles of glass cutting, how to utilize the glass saw and grinder to create your fused glass winged creatures. Bring photos for inspiration if you would like. The first class we will create pendants including sparkly dichroic glass, the second class we will attach bails to the pendants and create 4” tiles or sun catchers. Two bails will be supplied with additional bails available for purchase. |
